Claude 5.5 and Fable 5.1: What Each Plan Gets
Anthropic released Fable 5.1 on September 1, Opus 5.5 on September 22, and Sonnet 5.5 on September 28, 2026. All three run in Cowork, but Fable is billed differently from the rest. Here is how it breaks down.
Fable 5.1 included on Max and Team Premium
Fable models can use up to 50% of your weekly usage limits at no extra cost. It is a share of the same allowance, and Fable uses it faster than other models.
Usage credits on Pro and Team Standard
On these plans Fable 5.1 runs on prepaid usage credits billed at API rates. Turn on and top up credits in your Claude account settings.
API prices per million tokens
Fable 5.1: $10 input / $50 output. Opus 5.5: $4 / $20. Sonnet 5.5: $2 / $10. Fable 5.1 cache reads fell 75% to $0.25.
Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 for everyday work
Both run within your normal plan limits on every paid plan. Opus 5.5 matches Fable 5.1 on most work; Sonnet 5.5 is faster and lighter on usage. Switch in the model picker.
