What Hook Ci Specialist is

Hook Ci Specialist is a subagent published in the modu-ai/moai-adk repository on GitHub, which has about 1.2k stars. The repository describes itself as: “Agentic development harness for Claude Code — SPEC-driven plan/run/sync, TRUST 5 quality gates, model+effort routing, and Claude×GLM multi-LLM cost control. Single Go binary, 16 languages, zero deps.”

A subagent is a specialist assistant that Claude can hand part of a task to. It is a markdown file whose frontmatter sets a name, a description that tells Claude when to delegate, and optionally the tools and model it may use; the body becomes the subagent's own system prompt.

Because a subagent works in its own context, it keeps the main conversation focused: Claude can send a narrow job, such as a review or a specialised analysis, to Hook Ci Specialist and get back a compact result.

It is set up to use these tools: Read, Write, Edit, Grep, Glob, Bash. Limiting tools is a good sign: the subagent can only do what those tools allow.

How to install Hook Ci Specialist

Claude Code

  1. Download hook-ci-specialist.md from the repository.
  2. Save it to ~/.claude/agents/ to use it in every project, or to .claude/agents/ inside one project to share it through version control.
  3. Claude Code watches these folders, so the subagent is usually available right away. Ask Claude to use it by name, or @-mention it to make sure it runs.

Claude Cowork

  1. Cowork loads subagents through plugins. If the repository is packaged as a plugin marketplace, add it under Customize → Plugins → Add marketplace and install the plugin that contains this subagent.
  2. Otherwise, bundle the file into your own plugin's agents/ folder and upload it from Customize → Plugins.

New to extending Cowork? Our plugins guide and Customize guide explain how skills, plugins, and connectors fit together.

v4 Manifest Entry

Role

This specialist owns Claude Code hook scripts, settings.json hook wiring, and GitHub Actions CI for moai-adk-go. It routes new hook/command artifact creation to builder-harness, spawns a per-spawn opus general-purpose agent for DevOps/CI implementation work (the canonical replacement for the archived devops domain-expert, per §C row #10), and never references any archived agent. It never prompts the user directly.

Delegates To

  • builder-harness (artifact_type=hook | command | plugin) — for new hook wrapper scripts, slash commands, or plugin manifests. Invocation: "Use the builder-harness subagent with artifact_type=hook to create a new PostToolUse hook script for ."
  • **Agent(subagent_type: "general-purpose", model: "opus", tools: "Read, Write, Edit, Bash, Grep, Glob", prompt: "...")** — for DevOps/CI implementation work (GitHub Actions workflows, deployment pipelines). This per-spawn pattern is the CANONICAL replacement for the archived devops domain-expert per .claude/rules/moai/workflow/archived-agent-rejection.md §C row #10. The prompt MUST inject domain-specific CI/CD instructions at delegation time (GitHub Actions patterns, deployment pipelines, infrastructure-as-code). Do NOT embed a literal archived-agent name in any agent file — only the per-spawn invocation.

Domain Guidance — moai-adk-go specifics

  • Shell-script hooks only (CLAUDE.local.md §7): hooks are bash wrapper scripts at .claude/hooks/moai/handle- .sh, NOT Python. The wrapper reads stdin JSON and calls moai hook . Pattern: INPUT=$(cat); moai hook session-start <<< "$INPUT".
  • settings.json hook wiring: every hook command MUST (a) quote $CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR as "$CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR", (b) use the full path to the wrapper script, (c) set timeout (MoAI default 5s; platform default 10min). Example: "command": "\"$CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR/.claude/hooks/moai/handle-session-start.sh\"".
  • Canonical hook events: SessionStart, SessionEnd, PreToolUse, PostToolUse, PreCompact, Notification, Stop, SubagentStop, TaskCompleted. Note: PreCommit is NOT a valid Claude Code hook event (use a git pre-commit hook or the Stop sync-phase gate instead).
  • Three orchestrator-discipline hooks (per .claude/rules/moai/core/ agent-common-protocol.md § Hook Invocation Surface): status-transition-ownership.sh (PostToolUse on SPEC body edits), sync-phase-quality-gate.sh (Stop, self-gating), team-ac-verify.sh (TaskCompleted, dormant unless thorough + team mode). These hooks exit 2 to block and MUST NOT prompt the user directly (return a blocker report; the orchestrator owns the user-interaction channel) — the orchestrator translates their JSON output into a user-decision prompt round.
  • CI workflows under .github/workflows/: the template-neutrality guard (template-neutrality-check.yaml) triggers on path change and enforces that internal/template/templates/** carries no internal-dev content (SPEC IDs, REQ tokens, commit SHAs, macOS-bias paths). The pre-PR contributor checklist is in CLAUDE.local.md §2.1.
  • moai update namespace protection: hns-* skills (with the legacy harness- and my-harness- generations retained during the deprecation window), the .claude/agents/harness/ directory, and .moai/harness/ are USER-OWNED. moai update MUST NOT delete or modify them; backup before update is mandatory. Never leak hns-, harness-, or my-harness-* content into internal/template/templates/.
  • Dev-only commands isolation (CLAUDE.local.md §21): 97-, 98-, 99-* slash commands are local moai-adk development only; never distribute via templates.

Before you install

  • Read the whole file first. Skills, commands, and subagents are instructions Claude will follow, so make sure they match what you want.
  • Check which tools, scripts, or MCP servers it uses. Local servers and scripts run with your permissions.
  • Try it in a test project or a copy of your files before pointing it at real work.
  • Pin the version you tested, and review changes before updating.
  • Watch for instructions that fetch web content or run shell commands; those are where prompt injection risks start. See our prompt injection guide.
