What Hookify by athola is

Hookify by athola is a slash command published in the athola/claude-night-market repository on GitHub, which has about 339 stars. The repository describes itself as: “23 Claude Code plugins: TDD enforcement hooks, git/PR workflows, spec-driven development, code review, project lifecycle, fix-from-error, maintenance automation, context optimization, research, and multi-LLM delegation. 186 skills, 128 commands, 54 agents.”

A slash command is a reusable prompt saved as a markdown file and run by typing its name after a slash. In Claude Code, custom commands have been merged into skills: a file in .claude/commands/ and a skill folder in .claude/skills/ both create the same kind of command, and existing command files keep working.

Hookify gives you a repeatable way to run the same instructions without retyping them, optionally with arguments.

Creates custom behavioral rules to prevent unwanted actions.

When To Use

Use this command when you need to:

  • Creating rules from explicit instructions
  • Analyzing conversation for unwanted behaviors to block

When NOT To Use

  • Complex multi-step workflows - use agents instead
  • One-time operations that don't need persistent rules

Usage

Create Rule from Instruction

/hookify Don't use console.log in TypeScript files

This will:

  1. Parse your instruction
  2. Determine appropriate event type (bash, file, etc.)
  3. Generate regex pattern
  4. Create rule file in .claude/
  5. Enable rule immediately

Analyze Conversation

/hookify

Without arguments, hookify will:

  1. Analyze recent conversation history
  2. Identify unwanted behaviors or mistakes
  3. Suggest rules to prevent recurrence
  4. Ask if you want to create them

Rule Creation Flow

  1. Event Detection: Determines which tool the rule applies to
  2. Pattern Generation: Creates regex pattern from your description
  3. Action Selection: Chooses warn or block based on severity
  4. Message Creation: Generates helpful message for Claude
  5. File Creation: Saves to .claude/hookify.{name}.local.md

Examples

---

🛑 **Destructive operation detected!**
This command can cause data loss.

Creates:

---
name: warn-console-log
enabled: true
event: file
pattern: console\.log\(
action: warn
---

🐛 **Debug code detected!**
Remove console.log before committing.

Require Tests

/hookify Remind me to run tests before stopping

Creates:

---
name: require-tests
enabled: true
event: stop
action: warn

  - field: transcript
    operator: not_contains
    pattern: npm test|pytest
---

⚠️ **Tests not detected!**

Before you install

  • Read the whole file first. Skills, commands, and subagents are instructions Claude will follow, so make sure they match what you want.
  • Check which tools, scripts, or MCP servers it uses. Local servers and scripts run with your permissions.
  • Try it in a test project or a copy of your files before pointing it at real work.
  • Pin the version you tested, and review changes before updating.
  • Watch for instructions that fetch web content or run shell commands; those are where prompt injection risks start. See our prompt injection guide.
